Lace - holes surrounded by thread.

Lace has always juxtaposed structure and line with space. Beth Walsh’s work examines and challenges traditional lacemaking, through distortion or reversal of pattern, stitch, colour and scale, often combined with other textile media. Absence as well as presence is central, linking into concerns with the placing of her lace within a sense of time.

A sense of architectural structure transferred into the delicacy and contrasting integral strength of lace is a major strand in Beth Walsh’s current work. Memories of visiting Venice, with the recurring appearance of lace-like motifs in architecture, made a lasting impression now being explored and transformed, whilst other sources include the more immediate stimuli of her Norfolk home.

Beth exhibits nationally and locally, including NCCS exhibitions, and her work is also available on an individual commission basis.
